Spanish Language Immersion

Perfect your Spanish language skills in a dynamic learning environment under the guidance of professors from ESADE, Spain’s top ranked private university. Group projects and discussion based experiential learning elevate Spanish skills to enhance knowledge of grammar, syntax and vocabulary, and improve listening and oral skills. Students have ample opportunity to practice Spanish during daily life in the city.

Afternoon Seminars

Students supplement their morning Spanish classes with afternoon seminars that meet twice per week. Seminars are designed to offer a different insight into Spanish culture and to encourage students to explore the history and culture of the city in more depth.

Barcelona Adventures

Students participate in daily opportunities from our eclectic activities calendar, designed by a lifelong resident of the city. From the beach to the Picasso Museum, to shopping and sports, Barcelona has tons of sights to keep even the most ambitious students busy. The evening activity program will introduce students to different aspects of Spanish culture, including food, film, music, theater and politics.

Exploring Spain

Each Saturday and Sunday, we will take trips out of the city to ensure that students get a proper feel for the region's geography, culture and people. From beaches guarded by imposing castles to mysterious medieval villages, world famous museums and local fiestas, we will show you the best of what the Catalonia region has to offer.

Students live at a residence located in a safe, elegant Barcelona neighborhood. Our on-site team of experienced directors and resident advisors are always on-hand to make sure that students have the most comprehensive and enjoyable residential experience possible.

Students are housed in brand new double-rooms, which feature air-conditioning, private bathrooms, refrigerators and a television. Roommates are selected based on a pre-program housing questionnaire and taking into account age and geographic diversity. Your Resident Advisor (RA) will live on the student hall to create a community, provide support, plan activities and help get the most out of your stay in Barcelona. Summerfuel Senior Staff will also live in residence and are always available to address student questions, concerns and emergencies.

Students will have full access to the residence games room, computer room, student lounge, and ping-pong tables, laundry facilities etc.

Breakfast and dinner are served daily at the residence and offer a wide-range of meal options to accommodate most dietary restrictions and preferences. Lunch is not provided to encourage students to explore dining options in and around the university. Our staff and faculty are always ready with recommendations!

Summerfuel's Residence has a 24-hour reception desk at the student's disposal. It has CCTV surveillance, a sophisticated fingerprint access control system, and emergency warning in case students are in need of immediate assistance.

Students are placed into different Spanish levels by ability, based on an online test administered prior to the program. No previous knowledge of Spanish is required to study abroad with Summerfuel in Barcelona, and beginners are exempt from the placement test.

Morning Spanish language classes are supplemented by afternoon cultural electives that meet two afternoons a week and are designed to give students a deeper insight into Spanish history and culture. Classes are field-based when possible, ensuring enhanced exposure, immersion and intimate familiarity with Barcelona. Coursework is dynamic and discussion based, while homework is limited to ensure that students are able to make the most of their time abroad.
