Experience That Counts
At Summerfuel we are particularly proud of our 30 years of experience . Our residential staff structure is designed to provide a safe, supportive environment that addresses students’ social, emotional and academic needs. At UMass-Amherst, the senior staff is comprised of an experienced Program Director, Dean of Students, Academic Director, Programming Director and Administrator. All members of the senior staff live in residence with students and are available to assist with any issue that arises. Senior staff are experienced educators with collegiate or boarding school residence life experience and great familiarity with our programs.
Program Director - George Kinzel
The summer of 2011 marks George's 15th summer with Summerfuel. George has a BS in Human Resource Management with a Minor in Theater Arts from Binghamton University and also earned an MA in Student Affairs in Higher Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He is currently working at Bloomsburg University as the Assistant Director of Residence Life for Human Resources, Programming and Campus Leadership.
Resident Advisors (RAs)
In addition to the Senior staff team, a team of Resident Advisors (RAs) will provide direct supervision and support to students in the residence hall and during activities and excursions. RAs are college juniors, seniors or recent graduates. Each RA will support a group of ten students on his or her hall; RAs will orient students to their new home, help them with questions about the program and advise them as they adjust to living in a residential community.
All Summerfuel staff undergo a rigorous selection process that includes an in person interview and an extensive background check. Additionally, all staff participate in a pre-program training on-site.

Learn
Dynamic, Hands-On, Enrichment Courses
Course offerings are varied, ranging from SAT Prep to Entrepreneurship. Classes are small and faculty never lecture but instead engage and lead. In fact, classes are so engaging that students don't want them to end!
Enthusiastic, Talented Faculty
Our faculty are both experts in their fields and skilled teachers. They focus only on teaching - not residence life or running trips.
Discover
Campus Life
Make friends from around the world as you enjoy life in a beautiful air-conditioned suite style apartment. Workout at the new state of the art fitness center, grab a smoothie at the Blue Wall Cafe or sunbathe on the quad.
Freedom to Choose
Each day you'll have plenty of time free and you'll choose how to spend it. A walk to town, a volleyball game or a quick swim - it's up to you.
Alumni
Hear from our alumni
Our greatest endorsement comes from our alumni. They form a large network of students and families that overwhelmingly agree that their summer with us was their "best summer ever." See what they had to say about their summer on our Alumni Testimonials page.
