How can we be sure that a punishment fits a given crime? This course considers the creation of laws to prevent and address crime and the administration of criminal justice. Students will examine the nature of social control mechanisms and the role of law in a civilized society. They will also study the role of the prosecutor and defense lawyer, and will learn about the process through which criminal cases are brought to trial.
