The academic program at Summerfuel in Nice is composed of a 3-hour French language course each weekday morning and a 2-hour cultural elective course three afternoons each week. Upon arrival in Nice, students complete a comprehensive placement test and are placed in one of six levels of French language courses. All language courses are taught by native professors from the University of Nice, and they employ a curriculum that has been developed specifically for Summerfuel in Nice students. Whenever possible, professors integrate experiential learning and make use of the city of Nice as an invaluable resource for teaching the French language.
Elective courses are taught by local professionals working in their respective fields. Whether they be celebrated artists, renowned art historians, fashion designers or professional chefs, they offer students excellent instruction and unique insight on their disciplines.
In addition to the morning language courses and afternoon electives, students also have the option of taking a workshop in French Cooking or Ballet, which meet on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Enrollment in these workshops is on a first-come, first-served basis.
All students receive a transcript upon completion of the program. No previous knowledge of French is required to participate in Summerfuel in Nice.
